NanoJapan Presentation Awards

Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students

Marcus Najera (NJ 2010) received a 2010 Student Presentation Award in Chemical Sciences for the presentation of his NanoJapan research poster at the 2010 Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS). Marcus' NanoJapan research focused was conducted at the Osaka Institute of Technology under the advisement of Shigehiko Sasa and focused on the "Integration of ZnO Nanorod Biosensor with Field-Effect Transistor". Held in Charlotte, North Carolina from November 10-13, 2010 the ABRCMS conference is designed to encourage underrepresented minority students to pursue advanced training in the biomedical and behavioral sciences, including mathematics and provide faculty mentors and advisors with resources for facilitating students’ success.

Rice Quantum Institute Summer Research Colloquium

Nabeem Hashem (NJ 2010) was awarded the First Place ($500) Texas Instruments Award for Best NanoJapan Poster Presentation at the Twenty-Fourth Annual Summer Research Colloquium of the Rice Quantum Institute that was held on Friday, August 6, 2010. Nabeem's research was conducted at Hokkaido University under the advisement of Prof. Yamamoto and focused on the study of "Spin-dependent Tunneling Characteristics of Co2MnSi-based Magnetic Tunnel Junctions with Co50Fe50 Insertion Layers"

Kirby Smithe (NJ 2010) was awarded the Second Place ($250) Texas Instruments Award for Best NanoJapan Poster Presentation at the Twenty-Fourth Annual Summer Research Colloquium of the Rice Quantum Institute that was held on Friday, August 6, 2010. Kirby's' research was conducted at Keio University under the advisement of Prof. Kohei Itoh and focused on the "Characterization of Phosphorus Deposition onto Silicon (111) 7x7 Nanostructures for Applications in Quantum Computing"

Nathan Brooks (NJ 2007) was awarded the Second Place ($250) Texas Instruments Award for Best NanoJapan Poster Presentation at the Twenty-First Annual Summer Research Colloquium of the Rice Quantum Institute that was held on Friday, August 10, 2007. Nathan's research was conducted at the Osaka Institute of Technology under the advisement of Prof. Shigehiko Sasa and focused on "Fabrication and Characterization of InAs Ballistic Rectifiers"

Michael Chien (NJ 2009) received a "Superior Presentation" award for his NanoJapan 2009 research project poster: "Manipulation of Nanostructures on Silicon (111) 7x7 Surface for Applications in Quantum Computing" at the Sigma Xi: Scientific Research Society's 2009 Annual Meeting in The Woodlands, TX. Michael conducted this research at Keio University under the advisement of Prof. Kohei Itoh.

Shiv Gaglani (NJ 2008) received a "Superior Presentation" award for a poster presentation he gave on his NanoJapan 2008 research project: "Fabrication of Single Atom-Wide Nanowires for Applications in Quantum Computation" at the Sigma Xi: Scientific Research Society's 2008 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. Shiv conducted this research at Keio University under the advisement of Prof. Kohei Itoh.
