• Online Application
• Resume
• Unofficial Transcript
• Recommendation Letters (2)

Students will be able to upload electronic copies of their resume and transcript via the online system.

Recommendation Letters
To be considered complete your application must also include two Recommendation Letters. One of these must be from a professor, advisor, or mentor at your current university or college. The second letter does not have to be from someone at your university or college but should be from someone who knows you well and can speak to your interest in nanotechnology-related research and/or Japan.

If you have previously conducted academic research, either in high-school or college, one letter MUST be from a research advisor or mentor from your current or previous research lab. This letter should include details on your research project, progress, results, and any challenges you faced in the lab. This letter should also provide an honest assessment of your research work, teamwork skills, and readiness for an international research experience in Japan.

If you are planning on applying to NanoJapan do not wait until after you have submitted your application to request letters of recommendation. Professors, teachers, mentors, advisors and other professionals can be quite busy and you should ask them if they would be willing to write a Letter of Recommendation on your behalf as soon as possible. Schedule a time to meet with them in person or speak with them on the phone about the NanoJapan program, your interest in nanotechnology research, and interest in Japan so they have a clear understanding of the program your reasons for applying. Provide them with an updated copy of your resume and a copy of your NanoJapan application essays as well since this will be helpful background information as they prepare your recommendation letter. Also, be sure they are aware of the recommendation letter deadline and that if letters are not received by this date your application will be considered incomplete and may not reviewed.

Recommendation Letters should be submitted directly by the recommender and can be emailed as PDF file attachments to nanojapan@rice.edu or sent in via mail to:
